7 - OneDrive Restore and Download

With OneDrive for business, you have the option to

  • Restore entire User OneDrive, Single Folder, Single File
  • Do point-in-time restore
    • You can restore a file or folder or the entire drive as it existed on any date since the backup started
    • Restore data to the same user’s Drive or any other user’s drive in the same tenant

 

Restore OneDrive

  1. Log into the end-user portal for your account and navigate to the Dashboard
  2. Go to the OneDrive tab
  3. To restore the entire user’s OneDrive data, hover over the user and click on "Restore"
  4. On the pop-up screen, you will have the following options:
      1. Backup date
        1. This will restore the files and folders as they existed on the date selected
      2. Destination
        1. You can choose the original user or another user within the same tenant
      3. Default Folder
        1. This will restore everything to the same folder from which it was backed up
      4. Create New Folder
        1. This will restore the data to a specified folder
      5. Advance Option:
        1. Use this to decide what to do in case a file conflict occurs during restore. Conflict arises when you restore a file to a location that already has a file with the same name and type.
          1. Create (Default)
            1. This will restore files as a duplicate of the existing one
          2. Append
            1. Restores files by adding a new version to the existing file
          3. Overwrite
            1. Replaces existing files with restored ones
          4. Skip
            1. Skips the conflicting file
  5. Once the desired options are selected, click “Start Restore” and “Yes” to continue.
  6. If you only want to restore specific files/folders, click on the user's name and select the items you are looking for. You can then proceed the same as outlined in Step 4
  7. You can check on the status of your restore by clicking on “System Status” > “Restores.”

 

Download OneDrive

  1. Log into the end-user portal for your account and navigate to the Dashboard
  2. Go to the OneDrive tab
  3. To download the entire user’s OneDrive data, hover over the user and click "Download"
  4. Select either “Download Latest Version” or “Download Latest & Previous Version” as needed
  5. Select the date on the pop-up screen you want the data downloaded from. This will download the files as they existed on that date
  6. Click on “Generate Download” and then “Yes” to continue
  7. If you only want to restore specific files/folders, click on the user's name and select the items you are looking for. You can then proceed the same as outlined in Step 4
  8. You can check on the status of your restore by clicking on “System Status” > “Restores
